Scott County Security Center Overview
Scott County Security Center is located at 111 South First Street, also written as 111 S 1st Street, in Scottsburg. The building is shared with the Scott County Sheriff's Office, and the sheriff site also uses the name Scott County Detention Center on roster pages. Sheriff Jerry Goodin's office operates the jail, the booking counter, the public inmate roster, and the practical records fallback for jail booking information.
The facility is a county jail and local detention center, not a state prison. It houses male and female inmates with misdemeanor or felony charges, pretrial detainees, people booked on warrants or writs, people serving local time, and people held under other local court orders. Scott County Community Corrections is a separate court-supervision office nearby and should not be confused with the sheriff jail roster.
The Scott County Sheriff's jail information page is the source for the facility's public jail operations details.
That sheriff page connects the Security Center's capacity, visitation, medical care, commissary, phone, mail, property, and program information in one official location.
Scott County Security Center Capacity and Population
The sheriff currently describes Scott County Security Center as a 200-bed facility. The same jail page reports about 1,350 bookings per calendar year, but it cautions that bookings are not unique people because one person can be booked more than once. On June 12, 2026, the current roster heading showed 126 inmates. That number is a roster snapshot, not an official average daily population.
Older population sources give useful history. WDRB reported the county expanded the jail from 65 beds to 200 beds in a 2015 project after years of crowding and outside housing costs. A 2019 Indiana inspection appendix listed 189 people in 194 beds and marked the facility over the state's 80 percent crowding threshold. Those dated figures explain the jail's capacity history, but the sheriff's current public facility description is the 200-bed figure.
How to Look Up an Inmate at Scott County Security Center
The correct online lookup for this facility is the sheriff roster, not Community Corrections, IDOC, BOP, or ICE. Start with the Scott County roster chooser, then select current inmates for people still held at the jail or 48 Hour Release for people released within the last two days. The current roster is at scottcountysheriff.org/roster.php.
- Open the roster chooser and decide whether the person is likely current or recently released.
- Use the Search By Name field. The observed placeholder accepts a first or last name.
- Review roster cards for mugshot, name, booking number, booking date, and charge summary.
- Open the profile link to check the booking number, age, gender, race, city or state address, arresting agency, booking date, charges, and mugshot.
The official current inmate roster shows the live roster list with search, sort, pagination, booking numbers, booking dates, charges, mugshots, and profile links.
Because the roster profile warns that charges and bail may change after court appearances, call the jail at 812-752-8400 before posting bond or relying on a case number from a profile.

Booking and Intake at Scott County Security Center
After arrest, a person is taken to the Security Center for local booking. Jail staff create a booking record, assign a Scott County booking number, take a booking photo, record the arresting agency, enter the booking date and time, and list the charges or hold reason. The public roster may show new criminal charges, local warrants, writs, court orders, or serving-time labels, so a roster entry is not always a brand-new street arrest.
Medical care is provided through Advanced Correctional Healthcare. The jail page says an LPN is on staff 25 hours per week, a doctor is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and medication must be in the original non-expired bottle. LifeSpring handles mental-health evaluation needs. Personal property can be released only after an inmate completes a property release form, and property left after release is held for 30 days before disposal.
If the person is sentenced to Indiana Department of Correction custody, use the IDOC offender locator. If the person is in federal sentenced custody, use the BOP inmate locator. If immigration detention is the issue, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator. For custody notifications, use Indiana SAVIN or VINELink. For filed court cases, use Indiana MyCase.
About Scott County Security Center
Scott County's jail history is shaped by capacity expansion and recent program work. The county expanded from a much smaller 65-bed jail to the current 200-bed sheriff-described facility in 2015. Later official releases reported that the jail passed state inspection on March 6, 2020 for the first time in more than 20 years, and again passed annual Indiana State Jail Inspection on March 19, 2026, described by the sheriff as the seventh year in a row.
Programs and services documented in local sources include Thursday evening chaplain services, emergency chaplain availability, LifeSpring mental-health evaluation, and IRACS reentry work. A 2024 sheriff release reported that 599 inmates were offered IRACS services in 2023, 481 accepted, 62 percent completed the full reentry program, and the jail experienced a sheriff-reported 13 percent population decrease. Ivy Tech also reported that 10 Scott County jail inmates graduated from an OSHA-10 Jail Pilot Program on July 10, 2024.
